School counseling at berlin middle school during the covid-19 closure
Hello, My name is Mrs. Hansen and I am the school counselor at Berlin Middle School. I am providing information here in response to the COVID-19 shutdown of schools. As we have entered an indefinite shutdown of schools, I want to set up an online presence so that families and students feel like they are still connected to me.
While this pandemic is still evolving, I want to reassure you that even though we are not in physical proximity to each other, I am still available to help out with any needs you may have. On this page, I am listing my "office hours" along with my contact information. If you have any concerns about your child, feel free to reach out to me for assistance.
I am also providing links and resources to help keep you and your children safe and informed on ways to cope during this potentially stressful time.
Your child's teachers are also here to help and you can reach out to them as well for your child's academic needs.

What do i do if i am concerned about my student's mental health during the shutdown?
If your child is exhibiting behaviors that are concerning to you or if your child is expressing self-harm or suicidal thoughts, words, or actions, please see below. The Berlin Cares Website is a good place to start. If there is an emergent issue, please start with the section below that.
If you have emergent mental health concerns about your child, please contact your family care provider, local sheriff's department, your county crisis department. You may also call the national suicide hotline at 988 or text the national suicide text line at 741741.

Help for parents!
It is not easy to be a parent, a financial provider AND a teacher to your children. Although parents, students, and staff would rather be in the school building engaging in the process of teaching and learning, right at this moment, that is not a possibility. It is my task to help you and your child navigate this unknown, sometimes chaotic, sometimes scary new world with the least amount of anxiety and stress possible. Therefore, I will be adding resources to this page that are meant to help you work through issues your child may be facing.
First, and foremost, your child's teacher(s) will be the the best point of contact for any academic-related questions you may have. Second, I am here to help you and your child(ren) , so feel free to use the above "email me" box to send me an email. Third, if there are technology issues or other concerns you might have, you can use the CRT form provided by the district (and linked here) to reach out. We have multiple staff members handling hundreds of issues that have come up. Please don't struggle alone. We are HERE to HELP. And even though we are not in the physical building, we are OPEN for BUSINESS (the business of teaching and learning).
Sharon.
